HISTORY OF THE LOVE OF JESUS FAMILY CHURCH
The Love of Jesus Family church began as a bible study in the home of Pastor’s Jason and Gale Alvarez, which later moved to a VFW hall in Belleville, NJ. In April of 1982 the services moved again to a church building on Washington Avenue in Belleville. Coming from a background of professional recording and singing, leading a worship service was a natural fit for Pastor Jason. As the Church grew, they had a great desire to go on local television but they did not have any TV equipment at the time. Pastor’s Jason and Gale were earnestly praying and believing that they would have the equipment. Pastor Jason was completely focused and persistent in his belief and desire for a TV outreach. While at a conference, the Lord spoke to him to give a specific amount in an offering he heard and obeyed. The next day after that service, he was invited to a man’s house for breakfast, and in the library of that house was the kind of video camera Pastor Jason was believing God for. At the end of the meeting Pastor Jason had his first video camera. They began using it the very next Sunday.
Back then, few churches, if any, were using television as a means to reach people, also very few churches used music on local gospel programs. LOJ (Love of Jesus) pioneered that aspect of TV outreach. Once this caught on, many ministries started to incorporate music into their TV programs. As the church grew, Pastor’s Jason and Gale began to look for a building that they could call their own. In 1985, while in prayer, Pastor Jason received a call from a gentleman who told him that a church building became available in Orange, NJ. Pastor Jason went to see the building, met with the Bishop of the church and reached a deal and purchased the church. At the midnight hour, a businessman flew to New Jersey, and with a check in his hand, he gave Pastor Jason the money to close the deal.
Moreover, The Love of Jesus Family Church always had a Sunday evening service, but it was not until Pastor Jason heard from the Holy Spirit to invite the five-fold ministry gifts to the evening services for the perfecting of the saints that this evening service started to grow at a rapid pace. People came from all over the Tri-State area to receive wisdom and instruction from these anointed ministry gifts. Through, the leadership of Pastors Jason and Gale Alvarez, the Love of Jesus Family Church has grown into a thriving, non-denominational church touching millions of lives with the love of Jesus and the Word of God around the world. Over 152 churches have been birthed and we thank God for His goodness as we continue to do His work to reach the lost and to heal the brokenhearted.
