Bonding
Time seems to be moving pretty quickly. We have school, work, errands, family gatherings, and by the end of our day we want to do nothing more than RELAX. When we feel relaxed, we feel at peace! But what if we can relax with our children? Bonding is the establishment of a relationship or link with someone based on shared feelings, interests, or experiences. Has your child shared their interests lately? What are they interested in? What do they enjoy doing? What shows or games are they into? Have you tried doing any of those activities with them? When you bond with your child you create an atmosphere of open communication. It creates a safe space. Be open to whatever your child may say. Most importantly enjoy the conversation and bonding time. A fun way to bond with your child is to schedule or pencil in Mommy or Daddy Time. Let your child pick the time. It shows that you are open to spending more time. You can also create a bonding time calendar to keep in your home. It’s a countdown calendar! Let the countdown begin!
Here are some fun ways to bond with your child:
- Baking/Cooking night
- Game Night
- Movie Night
- Art Night ( create whatever comes to mind to express feelings. Write, paint, or draw).
- Reading Night
When the weather is nice you can also:
- Go to the Park
- Take Walks
- Ride Bikes
- Go to the Zoo
Never walk away from bonding time without asking what your child enjoyed. Before you both go off to bed, ask your child what they enjoyed most. Ask what they may be looking forward to for your next bonding night. Reflections are key before moving on to something new.
I pray that you have an AMAZING time bonding. Have fun! Be open! Let your time be filled with joy. Remember as you are having these bonding moments, ask the Holy Spirit to help you hear your child, be open, and continue to love in ways you haven’t thought of. I love you and you are a great parent.
