Unhindered Commitment

When it comes to trust, I always go back to Proverbs 3:5-6 because it draws the line about where our trust should be, and that place is in the Lord and not in our own insight or understanding. So that's always a good place to start. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding" (NKJV). And the rest of the verse assures us that the Lord will direct our path; He will show us the way we should go in the good times and in the bad times when we acknowledge His wisdom, His will, His purpose, and not our own. We can't expect to get wisdom from God to obtain our goals that may be contrary to God's plan. Sometimes, maybe often times, we will not understand the ways of God, but if we trust and abide by His direction, in the end we will experience the goodness and salvation of God. Jesus knew He had to go to the cross to fulfill His eternal calling to bring hope and salvation to mankind, but still, He was human; He asked God to take away the punishment He was going to endure. Yet, first and foremost, Jesus trusted His Father's plan with total, unhindered commitment and prayed: "Father if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done" (Luke 22:42 KJV). And, because of Jesus' total commitment to trust His Father's plan of salvation and not His own feelings, all of humanity gets a second chance to be forgiven-to be realigned with the mercies, grace, and goodness of God. Because of Jesus' total unhindered trust in the plan of the Father, we have been placed in right standing with God. We are reminded by the prophet Isaiah that God's thoughts, and His ways, although not always understandable, are higher than ours and always in our best interest:

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV

So, the message is clear: I will put my trust in God.
